Mail to Inmates

Mail delivery to the McLeod County Jail occurs Monday through Friday, with the exception of holidays.  All mail addressed to inmates is opened and inspected by jail staff prior to delivery.  Legal mail to inmates will only be opened in the presence of the addressee.

If you wish to send a letter to an inmate in the McLeod County Jail, the mailing envelope must be addressed as follows:

Mail to Inmates No Longer in Custody
The jail will not forward any mail received for inmates who have been transferred to another facility or released.  Mail delivered for an inmate who is no longer in the custody of the McLeod County Jail will be returned to the sender.  As a result, all mail addressed to inmates must include a return address.

Unacceptable Mail
All mail to inmates must be sent through the United States Postal Service (USPS) or a valid delivery service, such as UPS, Fed Ex, DHL, etc. The jail staff will not deliver phone messages or dropped off messages to the inmates.  The jail will not accept Polaroid pictures or letters with glue or glitter.  Stickers will be removed as will anything suspicious.  Pictures that show nudity or have sexual innuendo will not be accepted.  These items will be returned to the sender.

Funds Received by Mail
Inmates may receive money orders payable to “The McLeod County Jail for the account of [inmate’s name]”.  All money orders will be credited to the appropriate inmate’s account.

Any cash received will be credited to the appropriate inmate’s account.
