Passport Information

 Passports will not be processed after 4:00 p.m.       
***ALL APPLICANTS MUST APPEAR IN PERSON***
 
Bring the following items to the McLeod County Recorders Office at the Government Center:
  • Application -   USE BLACK INK ONLY AND DO NOT SIGN
  • Certified Birth Certificate from County or State Level. (Not hospital certificate or Notice of Registration from State.) Certified Copy has to include: Name, Date of Birth, Date of Filing.
  • 1 Passport Picture. Available at the McLeod County Recorders Office for an additional $12.00. You may have them taken on your own at Walmart or Walgreens. Fees may vary.
  • Valid Driver's License for identification.
  • Minors under 16 must appear with BOTH parents and both must have a valid Driver’s License.

Please visit Processing Times for U.S. Passports  for current processing times.  You may EXPEDITE the Passport application by paying a $60 Expedite fee per passport. This fee is in addition to cost of Passport and Express mailing fees. IF you would like the Passport Book returned to you via Express Mail, it is $19.53.
If you are leaving in the next 72 hours (3 business days), you should call the National Passport Information Center at 888-874-7793 to make an appointment at the Minneapolis Passport Agency.
 
RENEWAL BY MAIL QUALIFICATIONS:
*IF YOUR PASSPORT HAS EXPIRED RECENTLY
  • Must submit that passport.
  • Must have been at least 16 years of age when most recent passport was issued.
  • Was issued most recent passport less than 15 years ago.
  • Uses the same name as most recent passport or has proper documentation to prove name change.
  • Fee $130.00 – you mail it in yourself.

  • The U.S. Department of State highly recommends that all U.S. citizens utilize the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). It is a free service provided by the U.S. Government to U.S. citizens who are traveling to, or living in a foreign country.  STEP allows you to enter information about your upcoming trip abroad so that the Department of State can better assist you in an emergency.  STEP also allows Americans residing abroad to get routine information from the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.  See the STEP website to register.
