Ministerial / License

In order to perform a marriage in the State of Minnesota, the following must be recorded in any County in Minnesota:
Certificate of Ordination, or
License to perform marriages, or
Letter of Authorization to perform marriages (From church leaders of certain religious denominations)

You will also need the following:
Completed Certificate of Filing form
Driver's License for identification and age verification - Must be 21 years of age or older to perform marriages in Minnesota
Fee of $50.00 cash or check made payable to McLeod County Recorder.

If you are unable to appear in person, you will also need the following:
Completed Certificate of Filing form which has been signed and notarized
A copy of your Driver's License for identification and age verification - Must be 21 years of age or older to perform marriages in Minnesota
Fee of $50.00 check or money order made payable to McLeod County Recorder.

Other Statewide Information
*In order to perform Marriages in this State, a Certificate of Ordination, License to perform marriages, or Letter of Authorization to perform marriages (From church leaders of certain religious denominations) must be filed in any County within the State of Minnesota.

*A Minnesota marriage license can only be used within the geographical boundaries of Minnesota.

*Persons authorized to perform a marriage ceremony in Minnesota are required to assure that the couple has obtained a Minnesota marriage license and that the individuals appearing before them are the persons named on the marriage license.
