Engineering/Road Construction

 
The following is a brief summary of the anticipated major Road Projects for the 2022 construction season.  More specific information will be added throughout the construction season as it becomes available.

County Road 1 Rehabilitation - Concrete Overlay - see one pager       STAGE 2 DETOUR MAP (Begins 6/20/22)
Location:  Between Sibley County and 1500' east of CR 22 (2 miles SW of Lester Prairie)
Anticipated Start of Construction: 5/2/22         
Anticipated Open to Traffic: August 15
Contractor: Croell, Inc.,  New Hampton, IA

This project includes milling off some of the existing pavement, and placing a new concrete surface.  The new road will have 12' driving lanes and bituminous shoulders.  There are also culvert replacements or adjustments being made at Judicial Ditch 8 (south of 212) and County Ditch's 13 and 29 (north of CR 3).  

During construction the road will be closed to all thru traffic, but access will be maintained for individuals living along or doing business along the road.  There will be a detour established. 

The project is funded with Federal and State Aid funds.

COUNTY ROAD 1 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE  (6/30/22)

The Contractor is about a half a day from finishing all main line concrete paving.  CR 3 will be unable to cross CR 1 late morning today and that will open back on Friday morning, weather permitting.  We will continue to pave turn lanes at 140th/Bergen Rd. and 132nd   Friday, and Hwy 3 on Tuesday.  Next week starting either Tuesday or Wednesday the asphalt shoulder paving will start on the north project.  All paving and rock drives are complete on the south project.


CR 15 (Morningside Ave) Reconstruction
Location:  Between 11th Street and 16th Street in Glencoe
Anticipated Start of Construction: July 27, 2020        
Anticipated Open to Traffic: Project is open to traffic.  There is minor work remaining.
Contractor: Duininck, Inc.,  Prinsburg, MN
 
This project includes the removal of existing pavement, subsurface soils corrections, horizontal and vertical curve adjustments, installation of a new railroad crossing, construction of a new roundabout at 16th Street and new bituminous pavement.  During construction the road will be closed to all thru traffic, but access will be maintained for individuals living along or doing business along the road.  The project is funded with a combination of State Bonding, Municipal and County State Aid, and City funds.
2022 Seal Coat
Location:  Various County Roads - See MAP
Anticipated Start of Construction: Construction window is between July 11, 2022 and September 2, 2022
Anticipated Open to Traffic: No road closures, traffic will be directed with pilot cars and should expect minor delays.
Contractor: Asphalt Preservation Company,   Detroit Lakes, MN
 
The 2022 Seal Coat contract includes seal coating and pavement marking on 18.5 miles of the following County Roads: 7, 8, 76, 111, and 180th (west of S Grade Road).  The project includes pavement marking on various other County Roads. 

The project is funded with Local funds.


6" Pavement Marking
Location:  Various County Roads
Anticipated Start of Construction: Flexible start date between August 15 and October 15, project has a maximum of 10 days to be completed.  
Anticipated Open to Traffic: No road closures
Contractor: TBD

This project includes 6" pavement marking on various County Roads. 

The project is funded with Federal Safety Funds (HSIP) and Local funds.


Bridge 43515 - Deck Overlay (CR 71  at S Fork Crow River)
Location:  0.2 miles N of TH 22 (over S Fork Crow)
Anticipated Start of Construction: TBD, likely DELAYED until 2022
Anticipated Open to Traffic: Road will be closed, project duration is approximately 10 days.
Contractor: TBD
 
The project involves removing the top portion of the bridge driving surface and replacing with new a new concrete driving surface.

The project is funded with Local funds.


Bridge L2940 Replacement - Acoma Twp
Location:  200th Street in Acoma Twp over S Fork Crow River
Anticipated Start of Construction: June 13
Anticipated Open to Traffic: Project has 65 Working Days, anticipated opening would be November or December.  Road will be closed, no detour will be posted, local traffic should plan on other routes.
Contractor: Structural Specialties,   Hutchinson, MN
 
The project involves replacing the timber bridge with a concrete slab span bridge.

The project is funded with Town Bridge funds and Township funds.


Bridge Deck Maintenance - various bridges
Location:  Various County Roads
Anticipated Start of Construction: TBD, likely June - October
Anticipated Open to Traffic: No road closures anticipated, bridges will be done half at a time, traffic should expect minor delays.
Contractor: TBD
 
The project involves sealing cracks on the bridge driving surface.
