How to apply for Financial Assistance?

The easiest way to apply for cash, food or child care assistance is to visit MNBenefits . This easy-to-complete on-line application is sent to our agency electronically and, can conveniently be signed electronically.  You will also be able to upload documents to include with your application such as paystubs, identification, shelter and utility costs, etc.

IN PERSON: Forms can be dropped off or picked up in person at the McLeod County Government Center, 520 Chandler Avenue North, Glencoe, MN  55336.  An interview can be arranged. 

Note:  If you are applying for health programs only, you can go to www.MNsure.org to apply.  You would not need to come in to the office for an interview.

Step 1:

Fill out the Combined Application Form, "Part I" and "Part II"; this Combined Application Form, Part I and Part II, is the application for cash, food, and child care programs.  All the people in the household and their income must be listed.

NOTE: It is important to get "Part I" into the Health and Human Services offices as soon as possible.  Your assistance may begin from the date you sign "Part I" and return it to the office.

Step 2:Attend an interview with a worker; be sure to bring all the verification required.
  • The Combined Application Form indicates many items that require verification.  A worker can help you get these verifications.  You can also call ahead and find out what to bring.  Eligibility cannot be determined until all the verifications have been received. 
  • All programs have income and resource limits which you must meet and verify to be eligible; income and resource limits are different for each program. 
  • You may have someone else apply for you if they have your written consent to do so.  This other person is called an "authorized representative."


EMERGENCIES

In emergency situations, call or go to our office at the McLeod County Government Center immediately and explain the emergency.  You may be able to get same-day assistance.

IINTERPRETATION SERVICES
Non-English speaking applicants have access to County-provided interpreters in their native language.  Please let us Health and Human Services know in advance if interpretive services will be needed.
